I am Sold. (For Shaheen)

Mama said we’d have a better life,

people who accepted our broken family

and those who didn’t, didn’t care enough to speak behind our backs

So we trekked on boats back then to find home in land that didn’t want us

Hid under trucks to find solace in a new place.

Now, I wish for nothing but to be home.

This freedom they sold us is a fallacy.
